Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have been asked to include shipping marks in box 6 of my certificate of origin application what are shipping marks?

Shipping marks are any identifying marks on the outer of your shipment such as consignee address or special instructions. If no marks identifiable then you can either put "no shipping marks" or unmarked.

Q. What evidence do I need to provide if any foreign origin goods in my shipment?

Either a commercial invoice from the manufacturer of the goods or third party, a foreign certificate of origin, or manufacturers declaration. If you are unsure regards any supporting documentation contact the team at i-cert for further advice on.

Q. What is the process if my certificate of origin is lost in transit?

You will need to raise a replacement certificate, adding the replacement statement in remarks box 5 (contact i-cert for full details of the statement to be included)

Q. Can I process other documents on i-cert to be certified by the Chamber of Commerce?

Yes you can submit other documents including commercial invoices*, packing lists etc. *if invoice submitted for certification you will need to ensure it is signed.

Q. My customer has asked me to provide additional yellow copies of the certificate of origin, can I do this on i-cert?

Yes, you will need to process this as a "manual wet stamp"order when submitting to the Chamber and under copies simply choose the number you require.

Q. Where can I obtain blank UK Certificates of Origin forms from and how much are they?

If you are an existing i-cert customer blank certificates are supplied free of charge and can be requested from the i-cert team by sending an email to info@i-cert.co.uk

Q. What are the despatch options available to me on the i-cert system once my order has been certified?

You can choose either 1st class post, RMSD special delivery, local run delivery (if you are located within 10-mile radius of Heathrow) or DHL either to yourself or directly to your customer at destination.

Q. What is the difference between electronic and manual UK Certificate of applications and how do I know which one to choose?

An electronically certified UK Certificate of Origin is stamped on the system by the Chamber and once completed is available to print by the customer at their desk onto supplied blank certificate sets. A manual "wet stamp" application is stamped originally by the Chamber and will be despatched via your chosen method. You will need to check with your customer as to what is acceptable i.e either "wet stamp" manual or electronic certification.

Q. Do I need to do a new application if my certificate prints out incorrectly or jams on an electronically certified order?

No if your call the team at i-cert they will be able to assist and reset the order allowing you to print again on a new blank certificate.

Q. I have received my supply of blank certificates of origin and I notice that each certificate is a 3-part set. Will I be using all 3 pages when I print out the certified order?

No, you will only need to print onto the top copy and the yellow copy as the pink copy is the Chamber copy. On any electronically certified orders once you have printed and completed the order (printing 2 copies of page 1 only) the Chamber receive notification and will at that point print a their own copy of the pink related to that order.

Q. I am starting my first certificate of origin application and on the first page it is asking me for a reference, where will this reference appear?

The reference will appear on the top right of the certificate when printed out and will also be used as the reference on your billing invoice.

Q. I need my commercial invoice certified at the same time as my certificate of origin is this possible?

Yes you can create a "linked order" on the system to ensure both are certified together as part of the same order by the Chamber. For any assistance on this process just contact the i-cert team who will be more than happy to assist.
